The ultimatum was sent on 23d July, and Serbia´s answer should be given before 25th, five O`clock in the evening.
There were 10 terms in the Austrian Ultimatum for Serbia. Mainly, Austria asked Serbia to condemn Narodna Odbrana, a Serbian nationalist group, and confiscate all its means of propaganda. Then, to accept the collaboration in Serbia of imperial government organs int the suppression of the subversive movent, to suppress any publication against the Austro-hungarian monarchy, and dismiss Serbian high officials expressing themselves in a hostile manner toward the Austro-hungarian Empire. Serbia accepted almost all of them, but the participation of Austrian government delegates in a judicial inquiry to investigate the crime was a humiliation Serbia couln´t stand.
Actually, Austria knew he was not going to accept. So, that would be the perfect excuse to blame Serbia and declare war. Why did Austria sent that ultimatum then, instead of declaring war at once?
